A third choice is now available in many parts of the country when it comes to cable television. While in the past you either had to go with whatever local cable company was in the area, or one of the satellite providers, now you may be able to get AT&T U-verse services in your neighborhood.Let’s look at a few of the frequently asked questions about AT&T U-verse.

Does U-verse require a satellite dish to be installed?

No. AT&T is deploying fiber to the node, or FTTN technology to most of the major areas it serves. This fiber is deployed to a large serving terminal in each area, then the existing copper lines deliver the signal the rest of the way to your home. No satellite dish is needed, only the necessary receiving equipment is needed inside. So U-verse is actually more like cable than satellite television. Order the the AT&T U-verse Home DVR and your entertainment setup is just like satellite TV

What kind of deals is AT&T offering with U-verse?

These of course are changed from time to time.Current offers generally match what cable TV companies offer for triple play packages of voice, video and high speed internet. Usually, you can get all of these services for about $100 a month for the first six months. Sometimes the promotional price can go for as long as a year, but check with AT&T for the current offer.

How fast is the Uverse internet speed?

There are several different levels of service. The lowest level is the U-verse Express, which is 1.5 Mbps, and the highest is the Max18 service, which reaches up to 18 Mbps, great for downloading movies or even video conferencing. As you probably expect U-verse rates differ based on the level of service.

What are some of the features of the U-verse home phone service?

The AT&T Voice unlimited plans include all of the local and long distance calling. Other features include voice mail, call forwarding and call waiting ID so you won’t ever miss an important call. So if AT&T is your local phone company, a quick internet search or phone call can alert you to the availability of U-verse. If it is not yet available, you can still bundle your video service with AT&T with one of their Direct TV deals.

When looking for a good deal on home entertainment, you probably are looking at either satellite TV or cable television service. While you usually only have one cable company to pick from, with satellite TV you have two choices, Direct TV and Dish Network. Lets briefly compare cable television vs Dish Network satellite service.

Satellite TV service has now been a choice for more than 15 years. Incredibly, cable TV has now been around about 35 years in most regions. With cable TV, you usually have higher rates, as they have a last mile network to maintain. Dish Network is probably the cheapest pay television option. Their rates are even lower than Direct TV. On the other hand, DIRECTV offers the Sunday Ticket deal

With Dish Network, you have to have an area to place a 2 foot satellite dish. If you live in a condominium, this can be a problem. Many have solved this issue by putting a satellite stand on their patio, as long as it has a southern exposure. Cable television of course has a last mile network running into almost every apartment building served in the area, so that may be your only choice if you live in an apartment.

DVR devices have become extremely popular over the past few years, and both cable TV companies and Dish Network offer this service. Reviews of the Dish DVR though are much higher then the DVR’s used by cable operators. In addition, Dish TV charges much less then your cable company for DVR service, sometimes by as much as $10 a month.

When it comes to high definition content you should check with your local cable operator to see how many channels they offer compared to Dish Network. The number can vary quite a bit based on where you live. Dish Network does offer over 100 HD channels, but you do have an extra $10 a month charge, while most cable companies do not charge extra for their HD content.

In conclusion, pros and cons exist with both cable television and Dish Network satellite TV. Fully evaluating your choice beforehand will insure you are happy with your service later on.

If you are currently a cable TV customer, maybe you have been looking to switch over to a satellite television option like Direct TV. Maybe you have been apprehensive, thinking that satellite service is unreliable, or that the discounts available don’t stack up with your cable bundle. The other option in many neighborhoods is a new service called Fios. Are you making the right choice by choosing a Direct TV bundle or Fios instead of staying with Comcast or Time Warner?

You might be surprised to find out that DirecTV and Fios offer just as much programming as cable. A entry level package like the Choice Xtra olffer will give you 150plus channels right from the get go. This package is comparably priced with a basic cable package that you might purchase from Time Warner or Brighthouse. You will find over 100 video channels, and around 50 audio channels here and the regular price is around $55 per month.

Verizon Fios offers their TV Essentials package for about $50 a month. Naturally they want you to purchase other services as well. High speed internet and home phone are also available with Fios, so you can get a triple play package.

Now if you have an all inclusive bundle with your cable TV company, you know how costly that can be. In most cases, the standard rates on these packages with Comcast or Time Warner usually run about $180 per month. Direct TV offers a package called the Premier package which has everything for around $110 a month including HD channels. You do have to pay $10 extra for high definition, but you are still looking at a nice savings over cable TV. Another option is lining up Dish satellite vs Verizon Fios to see which is best. Check online, as there are lots of Fios TV offers.

Whatever your programming choices are, evaluating satellite television packages is a smart thing to do in today’s economy, especially when cable TV prices keep on increasing. Reviewing other services like cable TV and comparing them with the latest Direct TV offer is a smart idea.

DirecTV is marking third quarter of 2008 with a great deal on their NFL Sunday Ticket plan. The regular season for the NFL doesn’t start until September, but training camp starts in late July for most NFL teams, and the pre-season games start in August. Maybe you have passed on the Sunday Ticket deal in the past. If so, now is the time to find the best deals out there, as this is the start of the busy time of year for DirecTV.

Now if you haven’t heard of this tremendous package, here are the details on DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. Designed as the premium football viewing package, it is designed to give you viewing access to every single NFL game. Usually, most viewers will see four or five games a week on network television, the Sunday morning and afternoon games, the Sunday Night game on NBC, and then Monday night football.

Now if you live in the area where “your” home team plays, you can usually see your team play on network TV. However, if you don’t live in that market, you would have to make a trip down to the local bar to watch your team’s game. Since DirecTV began the Sunday Ticket package a few years ago, you can always see your home team, from the comfort of your own home.

While out of area fans make up a strong base for the NFL Sunday Ticket, there are other fans that need this package as well. Fantasy football enthusiasts have been gobbling up the package, as it lets them check in on their fantasy players at any time. Another group buying up the package is those who may have a little money on NFL games. They love the DirecTV Sunday Ticket as it lets them keep up on who covers the spread.

What about price? In past years, the Direct TV Sunday ticket cost has been around $250 per season, billed over 4 monthly installments. This year’s price for existing DirecTV subscribers will be almost $300 dollars. Those who sign up in time get a break on the price.

New Direct TV customers can take advantage of the promotion on the Sunday Ticket. Current offers bill the same price .99 per month for 4 months, with a great start up bonus. New customers signing up for NFL Sunday Ticket can get the DirecTV Premier package free for 4 months. If you want the NFL Superfan package though, you will have to pay an extra $100 for HD. This is DirecTV’s top end package, with 265 stations, 35 sports stations, and also free movie channels.

Free DVR service is also included and an HD DVR upgrade rounds out this great offer on dish TV service.

The digital video recorder has to be the best add-on to my television. Ever since I got connected to the Direct TV Russian package and their new HD DVR, my TV viewing habits have been altered.

Let me give you an example.

If you have not watched television with a TiVo or a DVR, you are missing out. You have complete control over everything you decide to watch. If you are watching a show, and all of the sudden you realize that you are starving, you can just hit the pause button. Go make your food, and then come back when you are ready, even if it takes an hour!

Then when you begin watching the show again, you will have the added bonus of fast forwarding through any commercials that come up. Pass through them every time they come up! Sometimes I don’t see a commercial for days.

Now here is how I recommend getting the most out of a DVR setup. I don’t even like to channel surf anymore. I simply set up my DVR to save the shows I like. Even with watching football, I set the DVR to record, then I sit down about an hour after the game actually starts. That way, I can fast forward through all the commercials, and watch the game in about half the time.

Lastly, I can always see new episodes of my favorite series. For example, new episodes are coming out soon of Friday Night Lights. On my DVR, all I need to do is select the record series choice, and every time the show airs, my Direct TV DVR finds it day or night, and saves it for me. I can set it to save all of the episodes, or just the first-run episodes. All of this in crystal clear hi def too!

Then, when I have time to watch TV, all of my shows are waiting there for me to watch, minus the commercials of course. No need to rearrange my schedule around the networks, not with my new TiVo and Direct TV.

While other companies like AT&T U-verse and Verizion Fios have also begun to offer DVR service, satellite TV companies like DIRECTV pioneered the product.

Well it is the time of year when both cable and satellite TV companies are raising rates.Comcast got the ball rolling in November of 2008, with notice that they would be raising rates on their customers. Dish Network followed up with their own announcement that took effect in early February of 2009, also raising prices on customers.

Direct TV is the latest major pay television operator to announce a rate increase. The Direct TV price hike will take effect in early March, and will raise the prices of most packages between $3 and $5 dollars each. DirecTV is citing higher programming costs as the reason for the increase. DIRECTV prices have been raised for the past three years.

All in all, the increase won’t break any budgets. When you look at it logically, they are basically raising the price of service about a dime a day, well worth it for most satellite TV subscribers who watch between one and four hours of television each day. Still, it seems as if consumers are getting nickel and dimed to death, even with the economy going into the tank.

On the other hand, compare Direct TV vs Dish Network and that will provide you a good idea on what satellite TV will offer. One example is the price charged for DVR service every month. The DirecTV DVR is about per month, while Comcast charges nearly for their DVR service. Charges like this really can inflate your bill.

DirecTV had another great quarter to finish out 2008. They added over 300,000 customers in the latest reporting quarter, while Comcast lost a half a million. That in itself show that DirecTV feels comfortable raising rates, even though the economy continues to slow to a crawl. Dish Network satellite TV will certainly have a hard time keeping up with Direct TV in 2009, as they have lost a key reseller, with AT&T switching over and offering Direct TV service this year.

Cable television deals aren’t hard to find, that is as long as you aren’t already a subscriber to cable TV.

The reason for that is due to the fact the cable television company wants to build their subscriber base, so of course they are willing to offer you a good deal, usually for the first year of your cable service. The cable company figures if you sign up with them, you probably will set up a so-called bundled packages that puts all of your services together like voice, video and internet.

You can almost alway get a triple play bundle for around 0 a month for the first year. Lets say normal pricing with a cable company is as follows: Basic TV costs a month, high speed internet is per month, and phone service is a month. With prices like this, your overall bill would be 0 per month plus all of the taxes and charges that are tacked on to the cable bill.

But what kind of issues can this result in Well consider what the bill will look like once the promo is over. You will have all of your television sets hooked up to cable TV, your high speed internet with your e-mail address with the cable company, and of course your home line through the cable company as well. But all at once your price goes up almost 50%, from around $100 every month to $140+ each month. Now is it easy to switch?

Maybe, maybe not. The best thing to do ahead of time is compare providers before making your final choice. One would be wise to comparison shop Dish Network vs Sudden Link before making a hasty decision.

While you might logically say it is not a problem to switch to some kind of deal from Direct Tv or something else from your local phone company like Verizon FiOS. But that is easier said than done. Usually the time and inconvenience of switching from cable to a different provider makes the customer stay with whatever service they have. Even if the monthly cost is high, the customer stays because they have all the services on the same bill from the same provider. That is what the cable company counts on when offering short term deals to acquire the subscriber.

In today’s economy, consumers are looking for every way possible to stretch their dollar. One area you may want to consider is your cable television bill, as rates continue to rise in this industry. An alternative to evaluate is satellite TV, specifically either Direct TV or Dish Network and the options they offer today.

Dish Network is the second largest satellite TV company, with nearly 14 million subscribers. Because of the heated competition in the pay television market, Dish Network offers great deals to new customers, in the hopes that they will become a long-time subscriber.

So where can you go to find the best satellite television specials? The internet of course is a good place to begin investigating satellite television offers. Currently, Dish Network is offering a promotion which can get you started with satellite TV for just 9.99 per month. Of course you need to be aware that this is a promotional price on the Classic 100 bundle, which is normally priced at 34.99 per month. In addition, local channels are not included in this price, so expect to pay an additional $5 or so for local programming.

What if you are in the market for an all-inclusive satellite TV package? The item that would fit the bill in this case would be the America’s Everything Pak, which is offered at a promotional price of $72.98 for six months, and $97.98 per month after that. Included here is every cable television channel you can think of , including 31 premium movie channels like Showtime. Another great option is the Dish Network Classic Silver package, offered at around $50 per month, with a $25 discount for the first six months of service.

Another nice thing about satellite TV is that most of the equipment needed is provided for free. From the satellite dish to the HD DVR, Dish Network will set you up. Generally, you will only incur upfront costs if you desire to have multiple DVR units. In addition, the satellite television installation process is a snap as well, offering free installation in up to four rooms in your home.

Why not check out the new Dish Network deals available and compare them with what you currently pay for cable TV. Odds are you will be surprised at how much cheaper satellite TV costs.

In the early 1990s, satellite television was first introduced to the market. It was understandable that only a number of people actually went out of their way to get their hands on a satellite dish. After all, the dish was a lot more expensive just as its size was considered inconvenient and intrusive.

At the time, satellite dish owners also used it to be able to access channels from around the world or channels that were not meant for mass viewing. The interesting thing though, people did not automatically get those signals. They had to look for those signals that is usually by chance alone.

This is no longer the case nowadays. If you want a particular channel, all you have to do is sign up with a direct broadcast satellite provider or DBS company. A DBS provider, such as Direct TV or Dish Network, is the one who chooses the channels from the programming sources and brings it to your television sets. Simply sign up, an installer comes out and puts up a satellite dish for you and connects it to all of your television sets inside the home. In most cases, you can have up to four different rooms set up to receive satellite TV signals. This is definitely an advantage when lining up DIRECTV and Dish packages.

Satellite TV is not only limited to the number of channels you can have. There is also a satellite HD that feeds apt programs for your hi definition television set. HDTV has a bigger resolution that gives way to maximum viewing pleasure. These shows also come with surround sound that pretty much takes the cake for television and home theatre enthusiasts alike. Best of all, there are so many Direct TV deals out there today. Spanish speaking subscribers can take advantage of the Direct TV Mas bundles.

The enjoyment it brings take another turn with the arrival of the technology of a DVR. A DVR is a recording tool meant for television shows. This technological marvel gives full control over live television that fanatics no longer have to fret about missing their most wanted shows. Truly a great way catch up on what you might miss on Direct TV.

100% Hi Definition Service.

If you’re a cable subscriber, your service provider most likely carries around 20 to 50 channels in HD. But if you have access to satellite television, chances are you’re enjoying up to 100 channels that have nice crisp pictures and flawless reception.

Currently, not even the biggest cable companies such as Comcast, Time Warner, Bright House, Cox and Charter Cable can compare to DirecTV’s 130+ channels you can watch on HD. By the end of the year, DirecTV projects satellite TV subscribers will be watching 100 to 150 channels on HD. Put that HDTV to good use and maximize your viewing experience through dish TV!

Watch More, Pay Less.

The pro-con list could go on and satellite would still emerge superior to its cable counterpart. However, it all boils down to this: You get to watch more for a price that won’t burn holes in your pocket. With satellite, you get more features, more movies, more music, more cartoons, more sports, more HD! You’ll receive more of virtually everything each month. Great sports programming like the NBA League package are also available for an extra charge. What more could you ask for?

Free Professional Installation.

Most cable TV companies charge you up to 0 for sending out a technician to hook up your television sets. Satellite TV providers Dish Network and DirecTV offer free installation and setup for your convenience. You no longer have to worry about reading the fine print or fees that cable companies (over)charge one time or monthly.

Multi-media Experience.

Radio on Your TV?! The limits of media are once again broken, but in a good way for the customer. Subscription to Dish Network gives you access to Sirius Satellite Radio to listen to the best music all day long once you’re tired of watching tv.

Family Friendly Packages.

With your current cable subscription you get basic packages with channels picked for you. However, satellite TV services from Dish Network and DirecTV program bundles that will cater to all members of the family. Everyone should be able to enjoy viewing without worrying what they young ones are seeing. These satellite packages ensure that kids see age-appropriate as well as educational programs. Even better, many foreign language packages are available such as the Dish Network French bundle which can bring your native tongue home.

Comparing your local cable company, such as Comcast vs Direct TV might save you some money. Switch now to a great DirecTV deal if you don’t want to regret missing out on anything.
